Default Am I doing it right? 2006 S40 T5 AWD - Auto

Hello from SoCal!

I might buy a T5 Automatic tomorrow. It has 110,500 miles on it, hasn't gotten its 100k belt, and my mechanic (not a Volvo expert) says it needs a new oil pan and engine cover and some other tweaks - $1200 total including belt. There's signs of water damage as well - the mats have been scrapped, the door interiors are missing foam, the leather upholstery is hardened in patches, and there is light discoloration. Will post pics in the morning (maybe).

Otherwise, the car drives and corners like a charm. Most fun I've ever had in a vehicle.

The dealership (not a Volvo dealer) is asking $5800 + fees and tax, $6600 total.

Am I getting a good deal?

Edit: the car has a clean fax and maintenance record... as far as I can tell.

Sounds like a LOT of money for that car. S40 T5s are really not rare, and given that you need to drop $1200 into it immediately. To me, the water damage would be a show-stopper.

Ok the interior sound it has not been looked after so the previous owner did not care much for the car.
These cars have a decent under engine cover that protects the oil pan unless its hit hard by something your is missing so I assume it has if so then no . I can not comment on price as I live in another country
If well looked after great car we have one for 16 years now
PCV failed 2 times (common problem on volvo)
Fuel regulator
Engine mount
rear boot wiring
new shock front (was leaking a bit so changed to Koni sport)
The leather seats need a lot of love as they are a combo of bad leather and plastic better to get one with cloth
So thats it quite amazing for a 16 year old car that has been maintained very well
Yes they drive well but nothing like an Alfa

I see! Aside from missing mats and baked leather seating, there is no noticeable issue w the interior! I assumed it was water dmg but I could be quite wrong.

The engine cover needs replacement because of heat - it has warped and melted in areas. I imagine the warping exposed the pan.

ok I cant open the link perhaps because I am in RSA but melted under cover due to heat that is bad stay away, these engines have a large oil pan and a large cooling capacity so if it melted the undertray , then its no good as at some point the motor overheated and you will have endless problems
