Anyone else experience a loud piercing noise when you first brake, when i leave early in the morning i pull out of my driveway and all i hear is this loud piercing noise its horrible, i heard that they are replacing rotters? anyone heard of this?

 

Do you have Volvo pads on the car?

 

Yah i do they do all my service.

 

OK so all parts are Factory OEM parts.
That is weird Usually no problems with OEM parts.

Are the rotors good?
Are they within specs?
Are the pads new or older?

I had the same problem with my brakes (very lound in the front of the car and sometimes in the back too) and i was told by my dealer (boston volvo) that it is a problem with the pads (or something similar) and that they are aware of the problem - they got a bulletin from volvo regarding the noise from the brakes due to moisture -; So they change the pads for free; The noise is not gone now but it is much much better; Still, when i start my car in the morning (especially during wet/rainy days) the noise is there. But not as loud as before;

I have performed that "tech note" on plenty of 04.5 and newer s 40's. I always spray sbc brake treatment on both sides of the rotors at re-installation of the pads....check it out!!!

 

what is a "sbc brake treatment"? I was not told about any treatment when the brakes were changed; Is there a way to find out about the sbc treatment just by looking at the pads?

 

IT is the brake pads there is a bulliten on it for most early build date cars. The have a updated pad to fix the problem. Cars built later in the year have the updated pads already on them.
