Default Boot Lid Unlock issues

Recently, I purchased a Volvo S40 1.8 SE. 55k miles on the clock and one previous owner, with a full Volvo service history. The cars in immaculate condition; I cannot fault the vehicle itself in any way. All in, I paid £1000!!

There's one little thing that bugs me though! Previously, when I pressed the boot release button on my Key Remote, the boot would unlock and open ever so slightly. However, over the past couple of weeks, the Key Remote button only unlocks the boot now and doesn't open the boot lid itself. Unlike newer models where the boot fully opens, it use to open ever so slightly. Any ideas on what could be the problem?

Any advice would be great! Thought I'd see if anyone could help, before sending it off to a dealership to take a look at!

Probably one or both lift support struts has gone bad.
