Default borla or alternative exhaust

Anyone with a Borla exhaust or any exhaust other than the evolve or heico? I'm just looking to get a muffler that sounds better than the stock unit but I don't want it to be too loud. I thought about Borla but they don't make a direct fit and told me I would need the dimensions so they can hook me up wit a universal type mufller. Any hel-p here would be appreciated. I need to know what fits my '06 S40 2.4i

Go to a local muffler shop, and tell them you just want them to weld on a new muffler.

Are you turbo'd? you will want a freeflowing muffler like magna flow, fast intentions...etc. NA's want some back pressure, so flowmasters....etc.

I would do a custom 3" turbo-back.....high flow cat, a resinator, and a free flowing muffler. It would cost ~$1000 though.....
Cat back is okay (~$400), but the most gains is from the downpipe (~$600).

Mine is a non-turbo. I just want it to sound kind of like the Infiniti G35 in terms of loudness. Perhaps just a little louder but not by much. I also want a sophisticated tone so I don't think Flowmaster will do. I mean, I have a Trans Am with Flowmaster and it sounds killer, but that's not what I'm looking for in my S40

Non turbo's want back pressure so a baffled muffler is what you want.

I recommend doing a full catback system. A RICER puts just a muffler on and Volvo's aren't RICE.

I just want to get a sportier exhaust tone, and perhaps gaining 2-3hp in the process. Backpressure is needed, exhaust restriction is not. Believe me, by changing the muffler alone the engine is still going to have more than enough backpressure. Even with a cat-back , unless you go too big. There are restrictions from the exhaust manifold all the way to the muffler. When I step on the car all I can hear is the intake, which means the exhaust system is very restricted. But, as I said before, I don't want it to be loud, just as loud as a stock 350z, so a higher flowing baffled muffler should do the trick.

Btw, I am an American Muscle fan, so no ricer here.
