Brake caliper

Hello everyone, 4.30 Am got in to the garage to get in to my 2006 S40 2.4i and behind drivers side passenger rear wheel I noticed 12" diameter spot of brake fluid.
After getting home tonight I jacked up the car and indeed the caliper piston was leaking.
I only have 39900. miles on the car, what in the world would have caused this with such low mileage? Please let me know if anyone else had this happened to them.
I am going first thing in the morning and get a new caliper (since the warranty I am pretty sure is gone) and install it myself.
I am thinking perhaps that the piston was pushing too far since the brake pads are pretty low(3mm) I never change them but the rotor is still within specks.
What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance, Costy

You might get away with a caliper rebuild kit which is the seals for the piston. That is if there is no damage to the piston itself. Try to figure out where exactly the leak is and it should tell you if replacing the seals will fix it.
Also: with that much break fluid leak, don't drive the car unless you have a death wish

Thanks Licaspanic, I went ahead and Got a rebuilt caliper mine looked ok but could not tel where it was leaking so for $92 I got one.
They are telling me that perhaps there was too much moisture in the brake fluid that cause the caliper to go south. i have been neglecting my Volvo for 2-3 months at the time so by not driving it things went bad (don't know if I believe that) so drive your cars and drive them hard. if anyone want to know where i got the caliper it was in Glendale Ca. BMA.
