While driving under normal conditions, the A/C cuts out. I can turn the switch off for a few minutes and then back on and 75% of the time the A/C will blow cold again for a few minutes before having to do it again.

The car is a 2006 S40 with approximately 67,000 miles.

Any ideas? Any help will be appreciated.

check the clearance on the ac clutch. I think it is supposed to be .0016. If the clearance is too large you have to remove the clutch and remove some of the shims.

 

I took my 2006 S40 into the dealership for the same issue. They told me that most of the time, they only have to do an "adjustment" to get the clutch back in alignment. I did not ask specifics as far as what he meant by adjustment as I have an extended warranty and they are going to replace the compressor and clutch to make me happy and put some more $$ in there pockets. If you decide you want to try to tackle the above poster's shim advice (which works well if you are somewhat mechanically inclined) here is a link that I foind on the awsome forum for just that: Volvo AC Pump Shim
