Assuming that you have a left hand drive car, the filter is located just to the right of the gas pedal and behind the HVAC stack in the center. You have to remove the trim panel below the dash on the driver's side (a few screws) and unbolt the gas pedal from the floor (sounds worse than it is). You will see a vertical cover. Remove the screws and slide it out. It is a little tough to slide out and you may have to bent the filter a little to slide the old out and the new in. The job does take some flexibility on your part.

Where did you get those instructions? They are great. Do you have one for replacing the fuel pressure sensor? (2004.5 S40 2.4i)

Hello everyone,

I just posted this answer in another thread on the same topic...

It is POSSIBLE to change it thanks to all your postings.

To make it even easier, use a RUBBER BAND to change the shape of the new filter. By placing the rubber band around the filter in the center area, you will change the dimensions of the filter and make it much easier getting in back into the slot.

Here's the scoop:
1- Put the rubber band around the filter and slide it towards the center of the filter so that it looks like an "hour glass."

2- Then partially slide the filter into its compartment, and once you get it lined up, cut the rubber band and pull it out.

3- Finish pushing the filter all the way in and screw the cover back in place.

BTW, I did remove and unplug the accelerator pedal to do all of this. It was quite easy.

Good luck!

Just did this last weekend, it's very easy. The instructions above should suffice.

A couple of notes:
- Have a shopvac handy for when you remove the old filter.
- The three nuts on the gas pedal are 10mm.
- Two 6" extensions and a U-joint will make this much easier.
- The dash trim piece directly behind the center stack just pops off (no screws)
- Takes about 30 minutes to an hour

Good luck!

Guys, I can't figure out these "hidden" clips on the plastic covering underneath the steering wheel. I see a clip that looks familiar to the ones clipping the carpet to the center area underneath my left vent, but I don't want to break anything...

Can you guys help me find these clips and tell me how to unhook them without breaking something? The pedal portion of this replacement looks extremely easy, I just need to figure out this part!
