Post Cambelt or Timing Change - Volvo S40i - 2008

Does the Volvo 2008 S40 2.0i come with a cambelt or timing belt ?

I called in a local Volvo parts store for a Timing belt change and he advised me that my model doesnt come with a cambelt or timing belt, it comes with a timing chain that doesnt need to be changed at all.

He advised i buy a fan belt kit that costs about R2000 about 180 USD

Please help

Are you sure its a 2.0, and not a 2.4 or 2.5?

Either way I'm 99.9999% sure you have a timing belt, look here:

Volvo Timing Belt Kit 121912 274518, 30731727, 31251254

Not promoting that site or this product, just showing that timing belt kits are available for the 2008 S40's.

I would call the dealer back, otherwise call someplace else.

Hey Livens,

Thanks for the response, It is definitely a 2.0i

I had a feeling that i need to change the timing belt but the person i spoke to advised me nothing needs to be changed, strangely though. Will call the dealership soon and provide feedback soon.

That link was very helpful as well as it explained everything.

confirmed now with 2 dealerships, my vehicle comes with a timing belt that doesnt need to be changed unless there is a noise coming from there. About R2300 for the kit.

What i need to check is both the Aircon and Alternator Belts (R 550 each) and tension belts (R1950 and R1200 ) as they tend to get worn out after 160 000km or 7 years.

Hope this helps someone in future

Thanks

You can get a VMware image of VIDA on this site for free that will have the full Volvo maintenance procedures and parts.
