Default Can coil packs be faulty without showing cracks???

L O all,
trying to eliminate a problem, can coil packs be damaged if there are no apparent signs of wear or cracking ??? Cheers...

Yes. The packs can degrade over time due to voltage breakdown, so they can internally wear without cracks appearing. Best thing to do is to check the voltage on the coils by using a voltmeter. Set the gauge on the voltmeter, then insert one lead into the bottom of the coil so that it makes contact with the metal flange/spring inside the rubber overboot. Then touch the other lead to the prong that sticks out of the coil at the top of the coil (where the wiring harness to the couil plugs into the coil). Check the reading on the voltmeter. Then do the same to the other coil and see if the reading is the same. The reading should be the same. If not, then one coil is bad. Swich that coil with the "good" coil and see if your engine misfire changes code.

I think Counselor828 means check the resistance using a voltmeter,

not too sure I'd want to check the voltage across an ignition coil with a voltmeter - that might be the best way to fry it
