Default A challenge

Well, I recently purchased a '01 Volvo S40 1.9 T with only 41K miles, but I am already having issues.

The car started accelarting poorly on hills and taking longer and longer to start.

My mechanic has switched out the plugs and checked the coils, and both of which are fine.

However, now the check engine light comes on and computer code P0303, meaning a misfiring cylinder number 3. he checked the cylinder and the compression is fine as well, so the cylinder should be in tact.

Does anyone know what could be done to remedy this situation or have access to the steps to take when this code comes back?

I would really appreciate any insight. I love the car, but am very frustrated at this point.

Thanks for the help!

The poor acceleration may have been the result of a one-way torque converter clutch that slips. Also inspect your combustion chamber as it might already have deposits/ heavy buildups.

I had the same exact problem with the same code. Changed the plugs and coils and it worked like a charm for me. Seems like coils are an inherent problem with the S40s. Coils cost 50 bucks a piece and I got mine from myswedishparts.com. Should be quite easy to change out once you figure out where it is. You can try to change out 1 at a time but as tech says when one's gone the other is not too far behind.
