Default A Real CIS Challenge!

This is a '78 244 Lambda Car with a '76 B21 Non-Lamda engine. It is sluggish getting up to highway speed and then seems to top out @ 65mph. On occasion it seems to lose this restriction and run on up to 70-75. Here is the long list of what has been done.

1.) Recent head rebuild including T-Belt, hoses, ignition parts & Air filter.
New Injectors, Fuel Pump & Fuel Filter.

2.) Aux Air Valve checks out as do Warm-Up regulator pressures, as well as system pressure and flow volume.

3.) Factory rebuilt Fuel Distributor installed (non-lambda style as Frequency Valve & O2 Sensor are removed since we don't have to meet DEQ in this state on old cars)

As I see it, it's essentially a pre-lamda B21 ('76 - '77) with the only difference being it doesn't have the two small fuel injection relays under the hood, just the one big main relay under the dash. Nor does it have the fuel pump cut off switch/plug on top of the air Flow plate housing. This is the simple essence of a CIS injection system and this car should be real peppy & responsive. What's going on!! I'm baffled and going broke. TD

Compression is fairly good (125 +- 5psi) and it runs too well at times to be that simple. It's a mind boggler. TD

If performance is variable and sometimes good, I would look at fuel pump pressure AND flow, plus distributor advance mechanisms. I particularly like distributor for what you describe, maybe sticking weights.
Advance can be checked with a simple timing light, just compare advance at x rpm with factory settings and look for a sharp jump in ignition advance or no advance at all.
The advance should come in smoothly as rpm rises, if it doesn't look further.

Regards, Andrew.
