Default Changed ABS Controller, now brake goes to floor

I have a 2001 Volvo S40 and replaced the ABS Controller using the module master instructions and used a controller from a wrecked car. I had to pull open the brake lines (as per the instructions) from the ABS pump in order to get the unit out.

The replacement controller is working fine (no more ABS/Brake lights, and the speedometer works).

However, the brake pedal is going straight to the floor after turning on the car. I figure I need to just bleed the system, but while searching the web, it seems that some people report that bleeding won't removing air from the abs pump and that i need to follow another procedure.

So when I bleed the brake system, is there anything else that I need to do?

If you can safely try to lock the brakes up in dirt and activate the ABS to pump the air out of the unit.
