Question Changed fuel pump but won't start.

Hello All,
I was recently driving down the highway and my 2002 Volvo S40 started to sputter then gave out. After towing it home I realized the fuel pump was not working so I replaced that. Now that the pump is working again the car cranks well and sounds like it wants to turn over. Any Ideas on what could be preventing it from starting?

Did you prime the lines after installing your pump? You'll need to turn your key to the 3rd position three times before starting your engine. This will flush any air in the lines out.

I wonder how many cars have been towed into repair shops for fuel pump repairs when they we're just really out of gas?

It has happened way too many times with Pontiac Fieros (I have an '86) due to a fuel level sending unit failure. But even with the tank empty you should be able to hear the pump run for a few seconds as it tries to build pressure.

I have had that go out on my 2002 S40 also, its a easy enough fix luckily its right in the front. Mine did cause my car to stall when it was cold and threw codes about misfires, P0236 Turbocharger Boost Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance, P0237 Turbo boost sensor A circuit low, and P0171 System too lean bank 1.
