Default Check engine

One more issue to ask about, my check engine light came on and it throws a code saying ""advanced timing cyl#1&3" I believe, I'll have to double check. But this car has not had a tuneup in round 50,000mls, would this mayb fix the issue? I need to get rid of this error so I can inspect the car in N.Y., the won"t pass it with any chk eng errors present. Thnx.

Also, under acceleration, heavy or otherwise, there is sometimes a hesitation or misfire in the engine, could this be a result of the other issue?

hey subzero,
I recently had similar issues with my '04. Seems the engine temperature is related to the advanced timing CEL code. I changed the thermostat in mine and the advanced timing code went away. If you are in the same unfortunate boat as me and others in this forum, be prepared for the over retarded code next. If it occurs, treat the motor with seafoam in the crank case and disconnect the battery terminals after clearing the codes and tie them together overnight. According to the Volvo mechanics in the forums, the computer needs a reset to change the operating parameters on higher mileage motors and the seafoam will clear the engine sludge. Hope this helps.
