Default Cold Air or Short Ram

I have a 2005 s40, I was wondering what everyone else thinks about an intake. Which one is better for the 2.4i engine. A cold air or short ram? And does anyone have either that they would be willing to sell?

both will be a waste of money IMHO. I've never seen anybody who noted a performance improvement going to a free flow air box. The Volvo air boxes are fairly well designed to begin with.

I agree. Neither will have any notable gains.

Default Best Upgrade

I want to liven up my S40 some how. I was thinking a new muffler. I think the cars sounds good stock, but i want to give it a little more. What do you guys think about it? And what is a cheap mod I can do to give it a little more power? I have the 2.4i.

To be honest, there isn't anything cheap you can do that you will feel. It isn't exactly a race car.

yep in the NAs there's not a lot of options. You can run synthetic oil, flush the transmission etc and keep the car in top tune but my suggestion would be tires/suspension/wheels, sound system add ons (tough on the Gen2 S40s due to Volvo's unique dash design unfortunately), detailing the car etc to appreciate your ride.
