Default The Computer

My windshield wipers do not work on intermittent. The dealer told me it may be the "computer" and the cost is about a grand. I know thats sounds ridiculous to spend a grand for my wipers to go intermittently. But these dealers seem to jack up prices like no tomorrow. Does anyone know what this computer is called, and where I may find a much cheaper one?

It sounds like you're talking about your Central Electronics Module (CEM). It controls a lot of the electronics such as the exterior & interior lights, wipers, locks ect...

It looks like Volvo says you have to have a new CEM installed by the dealer and have them reset it through VADIS/VIDA. Some other guys are installing used ones without any problems though. The part number you want is 30896697. The '00 & '01 are the same part number (30896697) but the '02-'04 have a different P/N so I would stick to the correct one from your model and year if you want to try a used one. New one will cost you about $515 and $700ish on line (TascaParts.com). You can find used ones on ebay or a local junk yard for much cheaper.
