Hello Everyone. I have a leaking cam seal on my 2000 S40. The car has 173K miles on it, runs well, but is leaking about 1 quart each 1000 miles. The shop (not the dealer) says that my PCV system needs replacing, as it is likely clogged and the clogging is raising the pressure inside the engine and forcing out some oil at the cam seal. The shop is a shop that specializes in Volvos. The cam seals were replaced (by me) at 125K miles, so I do not think the seal is bad. I do alot of my own work and am considering doing the PCV job myself, since the shop quoted me 650 for the work. I know that there will be some time involved to remove the intake manifold to get to the PCV oil trap and the hosing that runs from it to the different areas of the car. I think I can get the parts fairly inexpensively. QUESTION: Do I have to get a new oil trap, or can I just clean out the old one if it is clogged? There are no moving parts in the oil trap, right? My VADIS manual says that I can clean the hoses with compressed air. If my PCV system looks intact (no broken hoses, ect) when I see it after removing the intake, can I just clean it all without buying new parts? LAST QUESTION: I understand that the "vacuum hose" is a heated hose. The vacuum hose is fairly expensive ($150?). Can this hose be cleaned with compressed air like the others? How do I test the heating element in that hose to see if it is working? Thanks in advance for reading this long post. Chris
