Default Customer support experiences for the "deck error"

Just curious if anyone has tried to contact Volvo's executive offices about the deck error on the 6 CD changer? I tried to make the point to Volvo that this is a well known problem that needs to be addressed and didn't get anywhere. Supposedly this is not an issue enough customers are experiencing for them to consider replacing the unit. A simple Google search reveals otherwise:

Anyone know where I could find actual numbers on this? The executive office also confirmed that I would have to pay Volvo to get to keep my broken CD changer if I decided to fork out $1000 to have the broken one replaced. Has anyone successfully fought that one? Seems odd to pay Volvo for something you already own...

I'm out of warranty. From the research I've done, the CD player tends to break when you disconnect the battery - no matter the milage.

The car is paid, not leased. You'd think that would mean I own the broken CD player. Volvo doesn't fix broken CD players. Instead they:
1. charge $1000 to replace it
2. charge you to get your old/broken one back
3. then refurbish that one & put it in the next car. Received conflicting info on what they do with it. One rep said they refurbish it. The last lady I talked to said all they do is keep the sheet metal case and toss the rest. Either way, they reuse it.

I'd like to get mine back & would like to know if anyone has been successful in getting to keep theirs.

Oh OK, I see what you are talking about now. It is a pretty common for OEMs to offer that, it's a way to reduce the cost on parts replacement. I heard the Volvo's are environment friendly, and this wouldn't surprise me.

Look at it this way...
1200.00 part -guestimate that they are asking 200.00
-200.00 return
= 1000.00 your cost
I guess you can look at it as a discount. If you don't let them keep the part, then you pay 1200.00

If you are out of warranty why don't you call and ask the mother ship if they can offer a discount? They have always been good to my family, since we own many volvo's and been with them for a while. I always call and ask for this 20% coupon good up to 100.00 at a dealer. Or try and find one on ebay, or go to vcoa.? I've met a few people at national events for a parts meet and swap. If you want I'll reach out to them, and tell them to contact you if they have anything. There is a membership fee to VCOA, I'd be glad to help.

Best,
Jared

I got their lecture on how this is keeping costs down for consumers... Not buying it though. They're charging you for a new one, stealing yours and then reselling it to the next consumer. As I explained to them, if my laptop breaks and I go buy a new one, Apple doesn't get to charge me to keep my old one under some false pretense of keeping costs down.

I appreciate your offer to look for parts. I think we've decided not to get it fixed and sell the car eventually and get away from Volvo. My experience with the "mother ship" was very negative. Took them over a month and numerous phone calls to even bother to get back to us... And apparently there's no way to talk to the elusive, nameless regional manager who makes all the decisions. Not impressed at all with their customer service. This was our first and most definitely last Volvo! Wouldn't recommend Volvo to any of my friends after this.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I had it fixed by an independent repair place for $215. Volvo's offer is definitely a ripoff!!! They also lied when saying you couldn't repair it on your own since the new unit would need reprogramming. The new unit works fantastic and didn't need reprogramming -- so don't let Volvo talk you into paying them $1000 to fix something they'll then go and refurbish and put into someone else's car...

Paolet, if there is any specialized volvo shops for repair, worst case scenario a Euro spec shop, then they most likely could do it.
