Default cvvt/cam reset valve

Hello all. I have a 2005 Volvo S40i non-turbo and am looking for quick help. I had a shop diagnose a CEL. Said it was the camshaft control, and it was located above the cam gear in the timing belt area. There is nothing in that area that looks like a "typical" vvt. By typical i mean the 4-bolt, kind've flat looking thing that sits on the corner of the head.

What i do see is a round tube about 3" long that goes into the head. Right next to it is another seperate round tube but no electrical connections to that one. Is this the cvvt control valve?

FWIW i've been fighting a mass airflow, o2 sensor and "P0026" which turned out to be the cvvt valve. The volvo specialist said it would cause all three.

Thanks

Well last night i replaced the vvt valve or solenoid or whatever you would like to call it and so far it is good. I was throwing a P0026 code and had pretty severe lack of acceleration from a dead start. otherwise the car ran fine. The volvo OEM part number is 36002687 and cost me $120 after core swap.

The solenoid is under the timing belt cover on the passenger side of the engine. Two torx screws removes the cover, than one torx screw removes the valve. Its different that the older models as its a 1" diameter x 4" long cylindrical valve. It is not a flat plate like part.
Simple fix (if this is your problem)

Hopefully this info helps others. Good luck

Found out that my AC tensioner pulley is bad. I believe that this connects the AC compressor to the crankshaft. I wonder if that's what's throwing the P0026 code.

Bad pulley causing the crankshaft to misalign?

Any perspective?

Thumbs up

I changed the valve the other day and code P0026 went away. It has been 3 days and car runs much better too.

It was rather easy to replace. Time to bring the core back to get my $20 back.
