For the last several months my 2007 Volvo S40 has had intermittent alerts popping up. They range from check engine, low battery, brake failure, abs, anti skid, etc. Car has been to the mechanic 4 times but no real diagnoses other than possible electrical issues. This causes the car to randomly not start. Also issues when the anti skid pops up. The car won't drive for about a minute after a full stop. Issues come and go randomly. Any ideas?

I'd look into the low battery first - if your system voltage drops below a threshold it can trigger all sorts of false alarms in the computer driven fault codes. Start by inspecting the cable terminals to the battery - clean any corrosion, look for bubbled insulation (a sign of heat, and heat's a sign of bad contacts), look for loose or frayed wires. The ABS/Skid codes can also be a sign of a fault in the ABS controller board. Older Volvos are prone to cracks in the controller's solder joints leading to intermittant fault codes. Not sure if the problem extends forward to the 07s but you can google Midwest-ABS or XeModex for some write ups of symptoms. Also, how old the the battery? its possible the fault could be in one of the cells - you'd need to measure voltage when the car won't start to see.

Thanks for the response. The battery is about 10 months old. I had it checked and our my mechanic said it tested fine

The newer models are very sensitive to proper voltage. When my 2005 started doing similar things I ignored it until the wife unit made me replace the alternator. This fixed my issue.

Now I have heard of some aftermarket reman alternators not working properly. Mine has been fine.
