Default DDL vs Nightime lights?

I have just recently purchased a 06 S40 T5. During the day, I left the lights in the 0 postions which what the dealer told me is for the daytime running lights. I was told turn the nozzle to the right to get to the nightime lights (headlights) . (Between those is parking lights). But, at night I came to relize that the DDL and the Nightime lights use exactly the same lightbulbs, and have the same intensity.
I was thinking maby I have automatic lights, and for some reason i wanted to turn on headlights during the day I could do this. The manual does not really explain this well, so I'm not sure if there is a difference between 0 and Nightime.
My question is, I guess what is the difference between the 0 position, and the headlight (which i called nightime) position?

Thanks

Hi Sportvolv,

there is no difference between the 2; I went to the dealer (for a different problem) and i asked about that and i was told "No" (the same answer from this forum too); Now i am looking to change the regular bulbs with Sylvania SilverStar, which i am told are way brighter than the regular ones; The reason for 2 positions is that in the upper one "nightime" the high beam will stay "on" once you you engage it, unlike in the "0" position -someone from the dealership told me-.
Enjoy your Volvo it is a GREAT car.

yeah, this is confusing...i've been leaving it on the number 2 position the whole time...and thought i had automatic lights...that they stayed on the whole time...so i should have it on 0 and then move it to 2 when it gets dark?

i leave them on 2 all the time just in case i need the high beam; set it on 0 only when I change the bulbs;
