Default Ordering New S40 2i, Need opinion fast

Hello,

I would appreciate any help in my delima (sort of).

I am a sales rep and get to order a new S40 (yeah). We have options of upgrading out of pocket, so here is the dilema.

I went to the dealership and looked at what they had -- all of their S40s had the moonroof select pkg and leather (so premium sound).

I really dont want to fork out $900 for the premium sound but it sounds good. I get the moonroof (but not the select pkg), so the standard stereo is included.

I cant find a standard stereo to listen to -- Anyone have the standard stereo, and how does it sound? Can I cahnge the speakers/amp aftermarket? Can I hardwire a XM unit so not to use FM transmitter or the DC? i-pod connection (besides FM trans)?

I need to order quickly, so any help would be great.

you are talking about the 06 S40. if so I cant help much. I know sunroof tends to leak in the 01 to 04. And the standard audio system sucks, I like it loud and I have blown almost all the speakers now. my 2 cents worth.

I have the standard stereo in my S40 2005 and to me it sounds more than great; recently i drove a V50 for 3 weeks with premium sound and even though it sounded better than the one i have on my S40 it did not sound $900 better; I wanted to upgrade my audio system before that but not anymore;
But it all depends on what you like/expect from an audio system; Take a couple of your favorite cds with you and ask the dealer to let you compare the two systems; I did just that and then i decided to give up on the upgrade; But then again...

i just picked up the 2006 s40 2.4 with the standard sound and for a stock stereo its okay....i had a basic $100 aftermarket deck (pioneer) on my old honda civic that was about 6 years old and used it with stock speakers and it totally blows this s40 away...on the s40, the sound with cd is okay but the fm radio sound quality leaves something to be desired...just basic treble and bass enhancement....like most stock systems, most of the emphasized sounds come from the middle range...bass and highs arent too impressive...and i listen to vareity of music from pop to hip hop to some jazz...wanted to change the speakers on this to see if that would help but there seems to be very little out there on whether this can be done becuase of the fiber optic wiring and possilby having to remove the door panels? any ideas?

Probably not real relevant,but I have a 1st gen (2002)S40 with Volvo trunk installed CD.I replaced the door and rear deck speakers with Boston Acoustics and left the factory tweeters in the dash alone.Cost about 350 US and made a world of difference.BJ
