Hey guys, I have a 2008 S40 2.4i. I am thinking about changing the serpentine belts as well as the tensioners. Anyone know what I should know going into this, also thinking about changing the timing belt since I will be working on the same area. Has anyone done this?

What is your mileage? Most belts are not suggested until 10 years for all vehicles and I believe 120k miles for this car. Timing belt should be done by a professional due to making a mistake and blowing your motor. But is still fairly easy on this motor and a timing belt kit would be best. Some choose to do water pump while in there as well. The serpentine belt is fairly simple. Tensioner and if it has a idler puller are usually not required unless you feel better replacing them or they seem to be bad. Though I would suggest even though extremely rare I have seen a tensioner pulley go bad causing a serpentine belt to get caught in timing belt, threw off timing and blew a motor.

it currently has 92k miles. And the reason I want to change the tensioners and pulley is because I think one of them is making a whining sound

 

Whistling sound is more than likely coming from the oil trap box not the drive belts. Try pulling the dipstick with the motor running and the noise should go away. As for the belts you should be good for another 13k.
