Engine burn Oil 1.8 petrol
Hi Lads,
Volvo S40 1.8 2006.
I have read few topics about burning Oil, and don't find answer to my issue.
I did a test and took off the plugs, fill up a little bit of oil into cylinder's (4)
to check which piston ring is gone.
The result's was after 2 hour's the oil on the second cylinder was gone, when the rest of cylinders was still in it.
I think the piston ring is gone/stuck.
It's buning 1L/300km
The question is anybody had similar problem?
It's good idea to change that piston rings, that will fix the problem?
Or mayby change the engine e.g. from Ford Mondeo 1.8?
Or sell the car-but it's nice car and don't know what to do?
Sorry for my English, as I'm not native speaker.
Thanks,
Adrian

I don't think that's a good way to test your issue. The piston that would be at the TDC will be more loose so the oil will get past the rings more easily. I would turn the engine 90 deg. and repeat the test.
Do you run synthetic? Oil filter is recent? I would switch to higher hot grade oil such as 5W40 or 5W50. But 3l each 1000kms is quite a lot already.

Thanks for replay!
There is only one black plug, but if I drive long distances it's not black much.
When engine start-cold, it's smoking blue a little bit on low idle and very bad smell <not like petro engine> but when is worm it's much better.
I use semi-synthetic 10W40 and replaced it 1000km ago with filters, but after 200km was black, like diesel one.
Will repeat the test again(mayby saturday) and I made mistake in prevoius post- I put diesel into NOT oil- sorry for that.
