Default Engine flushes and p0015

Hello, I have a 2002 Volvo s40 with a 1.9t and 140,000 miles on the clock. It has had the check engine light on for some time and I finally pulled the codes; p0015, p0128 and a evap code. To fix the evap code I bought a gas cap and for p0128 a new thermostat and temp sensor. But for p0015 Im not really sure the solution, I haven't really been able to find anything one online to has actually fixed the problem. So I'm starting with a engine flush, it looks pretty dirty through the valve cover. I put a quart of MMO in the the old oil and am going to run that for a week (about 300 miles) then drain the oil, put cheap oil and a stronger cleaner in for a few days then change it with synthetic. Im not sure what cleaner to use though, I was going to buy the gunk stuff but its not turbo safe. What should I use? I also checked the timing belt and noticed the exhaust pulley is leaking (not the camshaft seal), Is that some thing that should be fixed right away? Could that cause p0015? The car seems to be running fine..

Thank you

If the CVVT gear is leaking oil from the little plunger you need to fix it asap. The good news is you can replace the o-ring in the plunger fairly easy.

Here are some pics of the part:

The CVVT solenoid (camshaft reset valve) is normally responsible for the P0015. I've read one thread where the person took the valve apart to clean it.

Could the leaking gear cause the code, or maybe something is wrong internally (of the gear)? I found a new cvvt gear for $165, would I be better off replacing the whole part or is that a waste of money? I'm going to have a shop fix this because I don't have the tools to mess with timing belt stuff. As for the reset valve is there a definitive way to test it to know if it is bad?

Check out this thread. It shows how one person took the valve apart to try and fix it. I believe he went with a rebuilt unit due to damage. https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...0-47208/page2/

It's a tough call on which part is causing the problem. Normally it's the camshaft reset valve. However, as posted in that thread, it's not always the problem. The CVVT gear can fail or clog like the reset valve. For me the reset valve is the easiest and cheapest to replace so I would start there.

So I cleared the codes last week and the day after the light came back. Yesterday I scaned it again and got p0015 and now p0014. Will these 2 codes together change what the problem could.
