Fan/Blower not working on 2004 Volvo S40
Yesterday, the fan/blower would not turn off. It was just stuck on the highest setting, and whether I changed fan settingto 0 or to 5, it just wouldn't stop. Later on the in day, the fan/blower just completely died out. Now it won't come on at all. I can feel heat, but the fan will not come on. Any ideas as to what this could be?

I had this problem with my car (2001 S40) a few years back, it was stuck on highest setting till the next routine service the dealership changed something called a 'resistor pack', which fixed the problem and has been fine since. A quick google for 'volvo s40 resistor pack' shows up a few results worth checking out.

This happened to my 2001 model about a year ago. Bottom line is this, you have to change the cabin air filter about twice a year. The resistor sits against the air filter. So if you don't change it, the reduced air flow will cause this resitor to over heat and fail. It was a $200 fix at an independent repair shop and the part has to come from Volvo.
Regarding the filters, I've noticed the cheaper brands you can find don't fit well when installing. I recommend spending a few more dollars for the Bosch brand. It actually has a frame around the filter to help hold it in place better.
Hope this helps.
