Smile Fuel Presure Regulator - a hard to find fault & how to put a new one in?

Hi my 1998 2.0 turbo has had some fuel pressure regulator issues.

It was hard to find the fault and the main symptom was intermittent issues with the immobilizer which would not let the car start with the first few tries with the key. Drove my wife mad! Otherwise it was running a little rough on start up but this issue would usually stop once it got warmed up.

A bunch of fault codes appeared on my local garage's generic scan tool.

These may help others
009A communication problem immobilizer
000A atmospheric pressure sensor signal
0234 Transponder communication
0121 PIN code cannot be programmed
0038 undefined

After nearly fainting, I took the car to a Volvo dealer who eventually found it was a faulty fuel pressure regulator after a fair bit of investigative work including removing and /or inspecting the fuel pump and filter.

I have got the part and now need to get the new FPR in the car, can anyone please tell me how big a job is this - what is involved and how long should it take a DIY person, a garage or a dealer?

Cheers

Default Fix for Fuel Pressure regulator

No replies and a bit later on but I can update on the situation so hopefully it will help others. Got FPR installed by Volvo dealer - 2 hours labour which was the upper end of the estimate and plenty for the task. All round service was however exceptional and they let me supply the genuine part which I was able to source myself at a very good price compared to local RRP. Car now running much better and immobiliser is not interfering with starting.

Hey thanks all for the info, all done now but very good to know all the same. Maybe have a go myself next time but I am very happy with everything as all codes are now clear and the FPR seems to have caused them all - as no comments on any other work done on the job sheet. The car has been ultra reliable and low on repair $ for the 2 & 3/4 years we have had it, so all is well from our perspective.
