Fuel pump? Stalled while driving

Fuel pump? Stalled while driving
I had my pem replaced via recall about a year ago. The mechanic said they aren't getting any power from the fuel pump and they have to remove the tank to replace it... They aren't interested in fixing it so I have to have it towed somewhere else. He also stated he had never had a fuel pump failure in my model car.
Any other suggestions on what this could be? I'm scared how much this is going to cost...
Thanks!

The newer style s40 had a real problem with the fuel pressure sensors going bad reading high fuel pressure so the ecm sends less fuel to the motor. Start there and that should fix it and let us know. And rspi you can't say that it isn't a big deal to remove he tank because you haven't worked on the newer cars where sometimes you have to cut the exhaust. Some of them can be a real pain in the *** lol

That would really suck to have to remove an axle or exhaust just to drop a tank to gain access to the fuel pump.
OP, check under the rear seat to see if you see an access door for the fuel pump.

Thank you for the replies. I had the car towed to a volvo dealer (the one that replaced my PEM before. I'll mention all your suggestions. I was told by the previous mechanic they they did indeed have to drop the tank to access the pump, but perhaps it's something else. Is it possible for the PEM to fail twice? (even if it was relocated to the new position in the back?)

Hi all,
I got news from the volvo dealer - they said it's either the wiring into the fuel pump or the fuel pump itself. They also quoted me 1400$?! to replace the pump. (labor is 99$/hr)... Anyway, I got another quote of 700$ (before taxes) and told them I would need to take it elsewhere so they said they would do it for under $1000. I figured towing it would cost me another bit anyway...
Not trying to accuse them of anything, but I'm nervous - Can I ask them to show me the old pump?
Thanks.

I once had a dealer replace my engine computer for $500 only to find later it was a failed fuel pump for which they wanted another $500 to fix. Needless to say I had it towed elsewhere. I ended up paying a Firestone dealer to fix it for $275. For me, I will never ever let another dealer touch my car. Ever.

Hello again...
Well I just got a call and the mechanic asked if I had noticed any other electrical problems with my car - such as window wipers, radio, car windows not working? He said they are failing now. (I had noticed anything like this) So he wanted to check with me before dropping the tank and looking at the fuel pump. I know nothing about cars, but to me this seems like an electrical issue and not my fuel pump??
Ahhhh. Anyone have any thoughts? Not sure if I should have it towed to another place?
Thanks for all your input.
