Default Glove Box won't open- '05 S40

My glove box won't open! My car is a 2005 S40. If a cop pulls me over I am not going to be able to show him my registration.[&:]
The cave man in me wants to beat on the thing.

haha, I did actually think of that. If you turn the key all the way to the right it locks the glove box and makes the trunk unopenable from the remote for a valet, when the key is to the center the glovebox is unlocked, and when the key is turned all the way to the left just the glovebox is locked. It was very hard for me to find this information out because my owners manual is stuck in the glove box!

But, the stupid thing is is stuck no matter the wayI turn the key.

I am about to pry it open a crack and use a hack saw on it, because my 80gig Ipod is stuck in there.

If some one who has a 2005 s40 or similar could post some pictures of the lock inside the box so I would know how to best break in, that would be great.

Maybe I could dremel through the keyhole and stick a coat hanger in there or something???
That way I would just have to buy a new lock. That would suck because I would have to carry another key for the glove box.

I would try to dremel the lock out first rather than destroying the whole glove box. Also, I would bet it isn't too hard to try and pick the lock, maybe something just got stuck? It can't be a very complex lock I don't think. I would send you some pictures of my lock, but mines a 2000 S40 and I doubt the lock is the same, but let me know if you still want some pics.

Good luck!

Well, picking the lock will not work because even the key will not open it. The key turns in the lock just fine.

I don't know if anything would be stuck, There is not more give when the glove box is locked then when it is unlocked.

The picture would be great, thanks

Perhaps calling a locksmith would be the best bet, both economically and physically for your Volvo. They could open it perhaps without damaging the lock, and certainly without having to cut the door off! It should not cost too much either...much cheaper than the stealership and the official "Volvo Lock Technician trained in Sweden" that they would use. Hahaha
Let us know how it went.
