Welcome aboard. I owned a 2000 S40 up until last year. Very nice little scooters.

It's a silver, '00 turbo sedan, with 133,000 miles. It's in wonderful shape, and spent most of it's life in California.
I paid 4,000 (the hidden joys of such a horrible economy!) for it, and consider it a great deal, considering it's great condition, and mileage.

The CEL came on yesterday, and I will get the code (s), and go from there.

I'm a formerly hard core VW/Audi guy, and this car looks relatively easy to work on.
This car is great for me, as I own/have owned of all of the VW/Audis of the past that interest me, and this car blows away the Jetta line.

I can also see that 65mustang is a busy person on here as well!
(trying no to leave anyone out!)

hahaha....yes, reading the posts from the past, it looks like these cars like to throw codes quite a bit.
I bought a scanner, to make life easier.
Sure enough it was the t-stat /temp sensor deal....no big surprise!!

Hello and welcome!

I too just recently abandoned a long run of VW's for my "new" '06 s40 2.4i. The current VW generation is fantastic, but, somehow, I really prefer my Volvo. I hope your code isn't serious. One thing I do miss about VWs is the VAGCOM program. With it, it was SO easy to read and fix codes ... and car settings, too. As far as I know, there is no simple (and cheap) Volvo equivalent.

Enjoy ... the car will defintely grow on you!

The temp sensor and thermostat are infamous on the S40. Piece of cake to fix though. The second one I find a lot is the cam sensor. that little nightmare took some time for me though. I am cheap and didn't want to spend the money for a new one. I eventually got it cleaned without buying one. Anyway, good luck to you, the scanner will come in handy.

I did the t-stat today, this must have been the easiest t-stat job I've done on any car yet!

Just won an auction today for a 01 silver S40 as I needed something to replace my recently torched 300hp urS4 with only 70k miles! :`( This may prove to be a better daily work commuter though. Besides the cam sensor (does the car quit running when that goes or does it switch to limp-home mode btw?), thermostat, temp. sensor, mounts, and usual tune-up stuff, any other things to watch out for? How robust are the engines to take a bit more boost (in case the itch just has to be scratched again)? What's the fuel system good to? And what are the weak points? Thanks in advance.

Default New to the Forum and New Volvo Onwer.

I am very excited to be invited into the few. I am a proud owner of a 2009 Volvo S40 T5 AWD R-Design.
Color: 452-Black Sapphire Metallic
Interior: Off Black/Crème w/Aluminum
Dynaudio
Keyless Drive
IAQS
Rain Senor
Bi-Xenon Lights
With a delivery date on or about the 10 April. I can't wait. I read a lot of the post from here and other site that helped with my decision. Thanks and I'll post pick when she arrives.
Questions..... On the 09 they have LED lighting. Can anyone explain this option??? My Sales Guy is only a Volvo Concessionaire, and if it's a worth while options/accessory I wish to add it before it to late. Secondly, I wish to tune my S40 a little. I just bought some 18" rims and tires; can anyone recommend a good website for tuning a Volvo??? I'm looking for a rear roof spoiler/wing. They make them for the Ford Fusion, BMW 3 series, and also the S60 (see photo). Couldn't find anything for an S40. Last question, I promise. The diameter of the head lamps, I wish to add Halo's/Angel Eyes.
Thanks
CM
