head lights
hey. you know how the head lights come on when you turn the ignition on, is there anyway that this can be set like normal cars where the main headlights only come on when you switch the lights on rather than switch the car on? if i put the small lights on then they remain on when the car is off which would drain the battery (as i would forget to switch it off)
also (another topic) my volvo 1.8 gdi manual says that theres 2 positions for the front air inlet thing, and theres a tool (which i dont have) that you use in winter/summer to change the air inlet cover position. wots that all about? i dont even know if my car has this at the front as the manual covers 3/4 different versions and i dont know which one mines is.

If you have the owners manual it tells you how to set the headlights for working with the switch only.Im not sure where it is in the manual but I know it is in there.
Im not sure what you are talking about with the air inlet.I have never heard of that before.

ok thanks. the thing with the headlights i tried it as stated in the manual, key in pos2, headlamp in on pos 1, then pull the beam lever etc but it doesnt do anything.
the air inlet thing, well manual says on certain models theres a cover on the front which cant be closed/opened depending on whether its summer/winter that allows the cold air to cool the engine down quicker or something. also how do you find out wot kind of engine you have? coz i cant find this info on the sticker thats in my engine bay.

It should saw on the white sticker under the hood.If it doesn't Im not sure what to say.
You can have the dealer turn off the daytime running lights but they will charge you about 1/2 hour labor.

hi, i ve just got a new s40 and was told to de-activate running lights would be about £30 ....however there is a BIG BUT..
The volvo dealer told me this and i have had it confirmed by our leasing company.....
In the UK the insurance group given to the volvo is low because it has been proven daytime running lights save lives. therefore if you had an accident and had them disabled the insurance company could say you have invalidated your insurance - unless of course when they ask if you have made modifications you tell them!!
Also another point ..if you de-activate the passenger airbag and then sell the car , and the car crashes , if a passenger is injured they can claim off YOU , unless before you sell it you get it re-activated.!
