Default Headlight question

In my 2005 S40, my headlight point too low to the point that its better for me to put high beam to drive.

Is there an adjustment I can do on those headlight units to make it point upwards more?

There is, and it's easy, if you have standard (non HID) lights. It may also be this easy with the HID assembly, but I don't know as I don't have that.

You need (I believe) a 10mm metric hex wrench, and make sure your lights are pointed at something flat and level - I used my garage door. There's a little metal bar positioned vertically behind each of the headlights - this is literally the only thing holding the headlight assembly in place. Remove this, and then apply pressure to the back of the assembly toward the front and outside of the car. The entire light assembly should push out rather easily - but be careful to not scratch your paint.

On the inside of the assembly, there's a 10mm plastic hex socket. It has some kind of bull**** plastic clip on the top of it, which I believe they intended for adjusting it from the top. I had to remove this using the plastic clips on the sides of it, in order to adjust the lights.

Once that's off, give it a couple turns with the hex wrench, it should turn EASILY, don't force it. I believe clockwise moves the beam up, and counter-clockwise adjusts it downward.

The 6mm hex on the back of the assembly adjusts the horizontal position of the beams. I didn't screw with that.

If you have any trouble I can post some pictures of what it looks like.

Cheers!

Ya the headlight assembly is a joke I was expecting a pain in the a** when I first started messing with them but it really is just a simple aluminum pin. If only everything was that simple.

Kinda convoluted way of adjusting the lights. You have to remove the entire assembly from the car to do and adjustment, replace it to check the leveling, and then remove again and replace again until you get it right. Every European car I've owned has an adjustment screw at the top of the assembly that you manipulate while its still on the car. Much easier to complete.

I think that's what they were going for with the crappy plastic clip, it has a gear that looks like it was an attempt to allow you to adjust the headlights from above, but for me at least I couldn't get it to move the lights a millimeter.
