Hi,
I own a U.S. spec 2005 s40 2.4i and have noticed that after letting the clutch out andpressing the gasthe engine and tachometer rev high but the car does notaccelerate. It takes a fewseconds and then it catches and accelerates. It does the same when going in reverse on an incline. I just got back from the service center here in Crete, Greece and they told me that the clutch probably needs to be replaced. I only have 29500 mileson the car.Does this sound right? Has anyone else had this problem with the s40?

sounds like a clutch problem to me, its like the flywheel and the clutch plate are slipping that would be worst case senario, it could be just the hydraulic or cable problem from the clutch pedal to the clutchs itself,
one question when you accelerate hard are you getting the same power from the car as you always have or does the car slightly rev higher when accelerating and have less power?

Im going to have to say its the same power just no
acceleration right away. It takes a few seconds then
the tach drops, the rev drops down to normal, then it
accelerates. I usually let off the gas to keep from
sending the tachometer into the red. I think I need to
order the clutch kit for the s40 to include the disc
and pressure plate. Just not sure if there is anything
else needed for the replacement. The people at the
volvo service center here in Crete are a little
sketchy and wanted alot of money to order the kit
(somewhere in the neiborhood of 760 dollars)and I knew
I could find it cheaper in the U.S. They were
reluctant for me to try and order on my own.
