Default Installing aftermarket stereo in '01 S40?

Hi everyone, I just joined so I could figure this out, I am trying to install an aftermarket single DIN stereo in my girlfriend's S40. It previously had the factory double din tape/cd/radio setup. I have the wiring harness, antenna adapter, and a single DIN pocket installed correctly, but I cannot for the life of me find a way to install the actual stereo. I talked to a guy at best buy and he said to re-use the factory brackets, but the factory stereo only had the little spring loaded pull tabs and the black plastic guide rails and neither will fit an aftermarket radio. All I can find online is universal pocket kits and nothing to actually mount the stereo. Any thoughts here, personal experience or otherwise i'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Mine was installed at Best Buy so I know it can be done. IIRC there was some plastic surgery involved. Can you trim the factory brackets to fit?

As of right now I cant imagine how anything attached to the factory unit would come off and be installed on my aftermarket one even with modification. Its these two thin metal, spring loaded clips that originally went through the face of the bottom section of the radio, and then the thin black plastic "guide rails" are just to hold it at the right height until it locks into place.

Based on the pocket I installed, there are little clips that hold everything from the front. Im probably gonna try ordering another pocket kit and modifying those clips to fit the stereo and just slide it in. Its pretty frustrating that metra, scosche, etc don't have anything that fits properly but I'm glad to hear it can be done. Thanks for the reply!

My first install had the radio on top and the pocket below. After enough coke and other sticky drinks dripped onto the face from the cupholder above, I swapped a new radio into the bottom position and put the pocket on top. Seems to be holding up well enough as my 19 year old daughter is thrashing it now.

Alright, that's good enough to convince me to try this idea out. Ill report back for science.
