Default Instrument cluster problem

Hello to all got one question.
I have a Volvo s40 2005 2.4i...
Took the car to the shop to get mileage correction done.. Long story short, got the car back with a broken instrument cluster, when it is plugged in it only displays engine light, nothing els works its dead blank. I was told to buy a new instrument cluster and it will work, so I did that but upon plugging it in it does the same thing by only displaying engine light... Not it was tested and shown that it works when I bought it. Any info on why it does that and how I can get it to work please?

Thanks.

Double-check the fuses. It's really easy to blow one when doing a stereo install. Also look for the obvious problems like plugs that weren't reconnected, or ground wires that were left unattached. It's human nature to believe that couldn't have happened, but it does, all the time, even to the best of us (whoever that is). ;-)

Once again I have disassembled most of the dash area, removed the instrument panel, checked plugs, about at whits end. The thing that I'm not sure about is the high speed and low speed can bus wiring that is not being used now that I removed the factory stereo system. I have also noticed online that it is possible that the computer may need to be reprogrammed.
