Try a independent volvo garage with vida rather than a dealer. You can probably get a better price. Call around, even call the same dealer twice after a few days and try to speak to someone else. I have gotten difference prices through various dealers and shops that differed by a couple hundred bucks between them. That was based on buying the key through them.

Price is in the right ball park, they are expensive.

A new key requires a download using VIDA to make the car accept the signal from the chip in the key and the remote if applicable. There is no other (reasonable for the average consumer) way to do it.

The dealer may be charging you more for "programming" because you did not purchase the key from them. Check the price for key and programming all from the dealer. (and return the IPD key) And check other dealers near you - there may be price differences.

Most higher end cars are the same - keys are very expensive now.

Sorry

Volvo cars Rochester cannot do enough for you when it comes to service anybody within a hundred miles like myself should be going there half the price I was quoted from Buffalo
