Little help please.

Little help please.
First off I want to say hi to everyone. I am new here and just bought my first volvo. It is a 2000 s40 1.9t auto. It has 77,000 on it. I am familiar with turbo setups but not with volvos. So my first question is what kind of boost does it run stock? How much can I run on the stock engine safely?

RE: Little help please.
I read the turbo is only good up to 14 psi. Is that true? Is there any other great cheap mods that should be done? Anything I need to look out for? Another thing. I used the light washer blade things (not sure what you call them) and now one of them is stuck in the up position.

Well Here I am from my point of view. My stock neon can do 8psi to problems. The car does not come with a stock turbo. But the srt-4 neon runs 16psi all day easy. With the right tune and turbo you can run 20psi+. That car comes stock turbo. So I assume that because this motor on the volvo comes stock turbo it to is a built motor that can handle the boost. Am I wrong to think that? Thanks

You have a 12t mistubishi turbo on your s40...you can get a manual boost controller and put the boost up to 12psi without any cel's or problems. The stock boost setting on the 12t is 7-8 psi. If you're going to go past 12psi you should be prepared to run into some problems unless you do some other modding.

you cant just start taking turbos and such off of jap cars and putting them on your s40, if you wanted a rice burner you shouldnt have gotten the s40...for turbo upgrades with your s40 you can upgrade to the mitsu 14t turbo which is a direct bolt on...or you can get a 16g which would need a new flange for the turbo and definitely new exhaust....
jrgillespie- you would need to buy a manual boost controller and you can adjust your boost accordingly as long as you have a boost gauge.

You will also need to have your engine's computer tuned for the higher boost. If you boost it higher than the boost tables in the computer allow, you may run too lean and blow the engine.
I wonder just how much boost the stock fuel injectors can handle? Of course a rising rate, boost referenced fuel pressure regulator may do the trick without ecm tuning. I'd think a CEL would still be set if the boost gets too high.

with the s40's the cel will typically come on after you pass 12psi boost. I alot of guys have put there 12t's up to 12-15psi boost, but this isn't recommended, the 14t turbo can handle 15psi okay...Usually when guys put the 14t on they don't mess with the fuel injectors, but when you go up another turbo to the 16g hybrid that guys are getting, then you need to uprgrade your injectors..

This is my school car. My neon will smoke any volvo on the road. Thats why I got the volvo. I wont want to race and beat a slow car. I need more power for the highway and passing. The car is slow. I know all about turbos... Blah blah blah. The turbos you are talking about are for kids.
