Default Loss in fuel economy

I have recently noticed in the past couple of weeks that I have been lossing about 2-3 mpg, which equates to about 25-30 miles to the tank. I had been obtaining about 400+ miles per tank, now I am lucky if I can stretch it to 370-375. I do religous maintnance on the vehicle with all synth. fluids. Changed the plugs about 30000 mi. ago, air press. in tires is at adequate level. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

It's the winter gas formula.
"The oxygen-bearing compounds displace fuel components, so it takes more fuel to get the job done. Normal gasoline has a stoichiometric ratio of 14.7:1, reformulated winter fuel runs between 14.3 and 14.4:1," says Mitch Markusich.

I agree. The winter gas here in the N/E really takes a bite out of MPG. I'm waiting for them to say it will be used year round. Tom

Word.
On about 95% highway from York to Ocean City MD, we can only manage about 29.5 but thats using the A/C most of the time.
Now, she is happy to pull in 23 in mixed driving.

Wow, I am actually having the same problems and I think you guys might have answered it for me.
I am currently only getting aboiut 260 on a tank, usually get around 305 or more.

Also if you guys can help I have an interesting question, my 2001 Volvo S40 cant receive any more fuel then 11 gallons. According to my manual and websites I should have a 16gallon tank. Now my question is, could the problem be a faulty gas gauge, or something wrong with my gas tank pressure. My needle never reaches MAX completely, and always drops to 3/4 whithin 3 times of starting the car or when I hit 30miles on the tank. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Several members here have been speculating on this. According to this thread (https://volvoforums.com/m_89165/tm.htm), the tank does hold 16 gallons. The car will show on E about 11 gallons or so. You actually have 5 more gallons left in the tank. Is this a safety feature so you never run out of gas? Is this a flaw in the fuel sender? Only the Volvo designers know......
