Default Lumpy idle

Hi guys, I've just joined following my purchase of a 2000 X-plate S40 SE 1.8 petrol. It's mint with 59k miles so I think I did well for £2000. It drives like new EXCEPT... the idle it lumpy and judders up and down a little, sometimes to the point where the lights dim. It it juddery up to about 1300 revs and is fine after that and drives great. Any ideas? Russell

Last tune up?
Try cleaning the throttle body.
Check engine light on?

hello, just back from fixin a load of faults on my s40 2.0t.among it was lumpy idle engine would sometimes cut out also after taking your foot off the accelleratorand a bit jerky when changing gear. I started by cleaning the the idle control valve,no difference so checked all vacum hoses intake etc.still no joy. eventually check engine came on reading p0138 oxygen sensor high voltage, took out oxygen sensor no 2 which was clarted in crap cleaned and replaced that cured the problem car running perfect now, hope this helps..james

sounds promising, where would I find the sensor? Is it easy to remove?

If you are refering to the O2 sensor...there is one before and one after the cat.

I would start with what TECH said....Clean the Throttle Body. that should fix the idle.

For the sensors:
You will need to put the car on axle stands and then you will have to see if the sensors can be taken off with the exhaust on the car.
If not, then you will have to undoand lower that part of theexhaust system to take them out.
You could probably get by with basic tools. someone could probably walk you through it.
I havent had much experince with the 240s, so I cant tell you much.
