My 135k Mile Report - 2004 Volvo S40
Hi everyone,
Here's a breakdown of what 135k in 4 years is like in a 2004 S40 repair cost wise.
I've excluded oil changes, which have been done every 3k miles. And I skipped some of the services if there was nothing to report) It goes in to the dealer whenever the SER-VICE light comes on.
7.5k - $121.24 - Tire Rotation, Brake Bulb, and noise from brakes was checked out. - Was reassured that the noise is the brake calipers adjusting.
30k - $321.45 - Basic tune up with fluids.
32k - Warranty - Computer Controller Issue- Car was not drivable and had to be towed, kept stalling out.
60k - $415.21 - Fluid Changes, engine adjustments and tune up.
82k - 542.30 Tires Replaced with Goodyear Assurance in 195/60/15
84k - Warranty - Turbo Whine Issues - Volvo Replaced Turbo for free.
90k - $986.12 - Timing Belt, Water Pump, Tune Up, Fluids, Adjustments and Inspections
93k - $315 - O2 Sensor
120k - $780 - Brakes Replaced at all 4 Corners, 30k Svc, Various Inspections
130k - $140 - Turbo Whine has returned, but have learned to live with it, heater core broken, but had it bypassed. Car has been retired, and replaced.
Only one tow truck in 135k miles is darned good. Everything still works like it should, with very minimal signs of wear. The S40 was my dad's daily driver until he bought a 2008 Honda Accord EXL V6 w/Navi. The car he had before the S40 was a 2003 Accord EX i4, and he drove that car 70k miles in one year, then traded it on the S40 and regretted it ever since. So he's back at home in the Honda world again. I still can't get over how well the Volvo did on its journey, and it was by no means an easy one!
I drive it now, and it's a pleasurable vehicle that still feels very tight. I especially love the seats and the V shaped steering wheel. Not to mention it's smooth and revvy engine.
Anyone have more miles on their 04? (or any S40 I suppose!)
Here's the before of when I got the car, and after I got a chance to love it!

As you can see, it's held up amazingly well cosmetically.
Anyone had similar issues?

Sounds like your car is holding up pretty well. 130k miles on an '04 is some heavy driving! I wish you good luck in the future. (and crossing my fingers my '01 does as well)
I'm at 138K but mines a 2003. Your car looks a lot better then mine. For some reason the previous owner repainted the car (same color as original) so it's not as clean as I would like. I'll post a picture as soon as it get warmer.
Sometimes an entire car will get repainted if body work was done, due to color match inability.
Should definitely take some pics of yours though! A good excuse for a good cleaning.
