My broken turbo
Hello
After saving for almost 5 years, I bought a 2001 Volvo s40.
Three weeks after I bought the car, there was a flood in Rhode Island, and figures the one place that got the worst of it, I was at (working).
When I walked outside and saw my car in water, I just ran got in it and drove 20 miles home, stahling the whole way home. Now, let me tell you, driving with from your knees down submerged in water, stahling on 95 south is not one of my favorite things to do
when I got home, my husband did something to drain the water from my car, and we let it sit for the next day. Sidenote: I have pictures to prove all of this!! Lol.
The day after it all happened, it got really warm, so we went outside, and completely stripped my car (very sexy car, mind you)
we let everything dry for 3 days and put everything back together. Meanwhile,my insurance company is contesting it, because we put comprehensive just that morning. I applied for Fema and of course I was "REJECTED" after all of this we finally decided to try and start. The car and would you believe it? It really flipin' started. This time only two lights were on, the air bag light, and check engine. My husband brought the car to his mechanic and we found out that we needed a new engine computer. Not a problem. At the garage he had a parts car 2001 v40 that has the same computer as mine. Sweet. I exchange the computer for some free photography services. I take, the car to one of the only places in RI that works on volvos to plug a computer in and tell me if there are any codes that I should be aware of. I know what you are thinking, is this chic nuts or what? Her engine computer is fried, they won't be able to read anything. Well, you are king of right, I did buy myself a OBD and tried it, and after speaking with the Volvo people on the phone, they assure me that their equipment was much more suffisticated then my $100 OBD from walmart. LIERS! Their computer did the exact same thing. Absolutely nothing AND to top it all,I had to pay them, $80.
I also asked them if I could put the engine computer in myself or did it have to be programed by them, of course it had to be done by them and that would cost me another $80. Lol. Needles to say, I still haven't changed the engine computer, my check engine light, and air bag light is on, I think I need a new airbag module and come to find out, my turbo hasn't worked since I bought the car, and the guys who sold it to me knew it!!! Awsome, so much fir honesty in this world. Now, after all of this, my question to anyone that knows a lot about volvos, can I soak the blades in any specific liquid to disolve whatever burnt oil is on it? Or do I have to buy a new turbo? :/

Flooded car, Fried ECM, Blown Turbo, Air bag light...
I'd be really worried about everything turning out right.
If your insurance wont cover the car, it might be best to cut you losses and find a another S40.

Wish I could just part with it, I love this car, I put a lot of work and money into it and I don't Want to go back to driving a 92 Saturn with ford hubcaps
and dents on the hood. Believe me though Mad Matt, the thought has crossed my mind, but " Zeus " what I call my Volvo is a trooper. He made it through the flood.
in any case, thanks for your reply!

Might be able to snag a turbo off flea bay or check the classifieds on http://www.s40concepts.net/forum/ or http://forums.swedespeed.com/forumdi...09-Classifieds.
The airbag module is located under the passenger seat I believe.

Well since you are committed to the car, AutoNaut's spot on with looking on S40concepts.net for a new turbo as well as specific info on getting your car back into tiptop shape. Those guys have the most comprehensive site regarding the 1st gen S40.
Hope you get it all sorted out.

So, AutoNaut, I registered for s40 concepts and then tried to find where to post, looking for a turbo.. For some reason, they would like for me to print something out, have my parents sign it and then send it to them in order to be confirmed.. Im a little confused..LMAO.. :0 Thanks
Hey Mad Matt (funny Name)
I did and am still trying all those websites, but I think since I am a girl, no one will take me seriously..LMAO.
Thanks for trying and help
This car will be a PIMP car yet...

And the serous stuff.
When you try to register on S40concepts.net and you get to that page, just click on link at the top that says you were born before 1992 or whatever it is. It's just a filter to keep minors off the the site. I just registered there to post pics of the iPd show.
Here is the link to lyonsroar's for sale thread on S40Concepts that tech mentioned....

Thanks Boys, for trying to help, I think What I am going to do is buy a rebuilt kit..Let me know if you think that is a bad idea.
I will post some pictures soon.
The Engine light went out today, seems like if some douche slams on his breaks and I have to slam on mine, my engine light goes back on.
Still haven't put in the new ECU. It's between getting my tattoo finished or paying "volvo" mechanics to program my computer..
I just don't get why I can't just download all the programs and do it my self.
I will keep you guys posted.
Sidenote: Can I add you guys as friends??
Thanks,
Mia
