Here are the two pages from the book that deal with the shifter.

I hope this helps.

The dealer will sell/order you a new manual for your auto. They are not expensive and will help you in the future re: fuses, lug nut torque, changing out bulbs, and a plethora of need-to-know info.

The "W" is an electronic torque limiter. For example if you are parked on a non-tractionable surface (ie, snow, ice, gravel etc.) pressing the "W" will alow you drive off that surface w/o tire spin. It will also help on steep hills when ice (or...) is present. It will not function at speeds over 25 mph.
"W" stands for winter and is standard equipment on all automatic Volvos since 1994 (poss. sooner?). For manual transmissions the solution to these problems is to start out in 2nd or even 3rd gear.
Good luck and do buy a manual.
Peace,

Actually there is no need to buy an owners manual tofind out things like this. The owners manuals are posted online through volvo's website. You will first have to register with an email address then you will have access to the documentation for your vehicle, such as theowners manual, maintenance schedule, etc.

Yes, this is correct...and DO check out other years for the same model as well. I found information on certain features that were described in other years, and not in mine.

I recall the question from the guy who said the there was no procedure for changing out the position lamps in the bumpers for his year, but it was described for my year. Just make sure you aren't doing something that is peculiar to the year.
