New To Volvos...Help Me!
I just purchase a 2000 S40 from my parents for $1000 with 80,000 miles on the odometer. Now its very reliable mechanically but it has a few problems.
1) I've noticed that the headlights are day time running and I'm interested to know if there's any way to modify the headlight switch so they turn all the way off to conserve the bulbs (I'm running aftermarket Ultra Silvers).
2) Does anyone have a suggestion on a solid Intake/ Exhaust combo for this particular model (I know aftermarket support for this model is somewhat lacking).
3) I'm looked up some potential improvements (suspension/ brake wise mostly) but am looking for advice on improves for my new daily driver. My goal is to build a low key, yet functional daily driver with a little extra get up and go.
Thank You in advance!

Welcome to Volvo. I believe this will work for your 2000 S40. It worked on my 2002.
The S40
and V40 come from the factory with daytime running lights activated. Carry out the following steps if you will deactivate them. These steps may be carried out again to reactivate and deactivate the daytime running lights as desired.
Programming for On or OFF
Turn the headlight switch to position "Parking
lights".
Turn the ignition key in position II.
Pull the turn signal lever towards you and hold it while turning the headlight switch to position 0.
If the green light underneath the headlight switch is on the daytime running lights are on.
The ride can greatly be improved with some good struts/shocks. I had Koni Yellows on mine and it was great even with the stock springs. The handling was much improved and I'd say the comforts was better too. Other folks swear by KW coilovers.
