noise from timing cover
2002 Volvo s40 1.8 naturally aspirated auto
There is an intermittent quiet purring noise coming from the timing cover. I noticed it several weeks ago.The noise is only apparent at idle speed. it lasts only for a second seems to end with a click then comes back at irregular intervals of a few seconds. if the engine speed is increase only slightly the noise goes away. The performance is fine. I wondered is the noise linked to the variable valve timing control and is normal or could it be more serious? any comments would be welcome. thanks
