Default Odd fault

Hello all - new to Volvos and just found this forum, hope I can get some advice on a problem with my 2001 S40 se 1.6.

Simuteanously (or even at the same time) heated seats, heater blower, AC, recirculation switch and heated rear window - ie. all the buttons above the radio have gone off. The indicator lights don't light and the switches are not functioning.

Checked the obvious fuses but they seem intact and some of these functions share fuses with other - still working equipment. Some of these seem to have a common earth point behind the instrument panel but not all.

Now they're working, now they're not - intermittently working sometimes -
more often not, a mystery???

I've looked through the forum but couldn't find this problems mentioned - I've suspected the ignition switch.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Regards to all ............. DM

I know this is a common fault on the 850 and may affect the S40.

Next time it happens try 'wiggling' the ignition key in the lock to see if everything comes back on.

On the 850 the electrical portion of the switch can be obtained separately. VADIS seems to show the same for the S40.

Wiggled and wiggled still no luck. Changed the ignition switch last night - no difference (anybody need a spare ignition switch?).

Taken the heater ventilation etc switch panel (apparently Volvo price £450) out and seem to get an intermittent working - next job open that and look inside for any obvious faults.

Well £50 later and a replacment climate control circuit board and all seems to be well. I can now have a cold face, a hot bum and a clear windscreen !

Thanks to excellent service from http://www.salvogroup.co.uk/
