Default Odd computer problem 91 740 8v

I know that this is the best place to go for this problem so I tried to get to the SRS code with self checking box at the front strut tower.I put the prom in the #5 slot and push the button and red light went on only if I hold the button down. This does it to all the different slots.Well I took the bottom portion of the the plug and the #5 slot is blank. There are only two contacts 2 and 3.What is up? I did try the two plugs that were there but when I pushed the button the light did not go on.

You should have more that 2 and 3.
Did you try this with the key on?

You should push it once and then after a second it should blink.1-1-1 means no codes.

I think it should have 2 and 6 atleast.

The SRS I don't think you can pull codes on.
Look under the dash on the drivers side. Like straight back from the hood release handle. There is a relay with a fuse in the top of it. Check the fuse I will bet it is blown keeping the light on.

Some cars have more ports and some don't. I will try to find vut off years for the car and what ports it should have and post it if I can find it.

Thanks for the quick response! Well the lite is not always on, only when I push it. When looking at the box, there is the top which is black then the bottom part which seperates.Well I did that and there are contacts under # 6 and # 2 .The other 2 contacts are located under where the button and the red lite. I push the button but it does not flash after as described.

You are trying it with the key on correct?

It should do it. A2 is the fuel computer and A6 is the Ignition computer. So you should get something out of one of them.

Well I got them to work but it when I first got a good contact to #2 I got weird fast ticking sounds coming from 2 diferent places and the light flashed then blinked 7 times then flashed then 3 times.Mind you it was also clicking.I then made good contact to #6 and it just flashed 1-1-1.I then tried # 2 again and 1-1-1. First, why did it make that clicking sound, second, I looked on a volvo fix site and #6 was to check SRS codes. I also did not have a check engine light on.

Most of the cars that have SRS codes that can be pulled are the newer ones. Like 1993 and Newer.
I thought there should be codes that can be read as well but have been suprised in the past as well.

I know on some of the earlier cars you could pull codes from one of the spare fuse holders in the fuse box.
Look on the back of the Ashtray housing and see if it says SRS in by one of the spare fuse area's.
