Default Odometer reads 'Pin Code'

Hello Everyone!

I hope someone out there can help. I just purchased a 2002 S40 from an individual 2 weeks ago. On day 2, had a flat tire. I had 2 new tires put on. The next time I got in the car, the odometer reads 'Pin Code-' and none of the instruments work.

Has anyone heard of this problem? I'm thinking it's electrical but the radio works and everything else seems fine.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Try moving the Mode switch for the Gas milage and ETC if you have one.

Default RE: Odometer reads 'Pin Code'

Yesterday morning my 2001 S40 instrument cluster also went dead, showing "pin code" in the odometer space. After a few restarts, it came back to life, but I noted that the trip computer (i.e. Avg Speed, fuel consumption, tripmeter) had all been reset. (The tripmeter on the odometerhad not reset). It did it again shortly after, againcoming back to life with some tinkering (with same resets) and has worked fine since. I fear it's just a matter of time, though, before it exits again, for good.

Any insight? Does the added clue of reset trip computer data help the diagnosis?

Thanks!!!
