Oil change experience share, 5 Quart is ok
I changed oil by myself, bought 2 bottles of oil - 5 quart and 1 quart.
After filling the 5 quart, and then did measurement with oil rule, it's ok. So the 1 quart was left for the next change.
Note, the oil filter was changed together, it absorbed much oil by itself.
Btw, the old oil was pretty dirty, and it sounds good with new oil.

I bought the oil filter adapter opener from following link:
http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ler_Cap_Wrench
When receiving this opener, I was surprised for it's made entirely by metal material. I like it.
The model# is A261, different from IPD's T261. But it works well.

this is very usefull info.
i just bought 2001 s40 and changed oil last weekend.
yes, 5 quarts are enough. i used mobil one synthetics as recommended by dealers. right?
i had a hard time to open the filter; finally i used the strap kind of wrench. but i needed to open the splash guard. with this wrench, it will make the job a lot easier.
