p0026 code issue
Hello,
I am driving a 2006 Volvo S40. Recently my check engine light came on so I had O-rileys check it out and they said it gave them the p0026 code. They told me this meant my intake valve control solenoid was bad.
A couple days later the check engine light went off, but now my oil light keeps coming on and off usually when I'm breaking or at idle.
I have also noticed recently a slight smell of gas while I am driving. Which with the forums I'm reading says it could be "the gas cap" "a "leak in one of the valves" "bad o ring" or worst case scenario "bad fuel injector"
After reading some other forums I found out that the code my car is throwing could also mean "Low voltage" "gas cap issue" or "bad solenoid" My car recently sent me an info message saying "voltage level low" which it has said that on and off every few months since I bought the car.
I guess my question is, could my gas cap being loose be the cause of all of these issues?

I think your fuel and voltage problems are independent issues. If you smell gas while driving, is it inside the cabin? Hinting at a possible fuel pump/fuel level sender O-ring. Any scent of gas outside the car?
For the voltage issue, I would check your battery while the car is off, should be at 12.5V or so. Then check to make sure the alternator is charging it properly by checking the voltage at idle and this should be 14-14.5V. Then add a load like turning on your headlights to see if the voltage drops or stays the same, you want it to stay the same. This could hint at the alternator/ voltage regulator.
The low voltage could cause your p0026 code by not supplying proper voltage to the solenoid. Also, check your oil dipstick to make sure it has enough oil. Incorrect oil level can also cause improper function of the VVT valve because they operate on oil pressure.
To answer your end question, I do not think a loose gas cap would cause all of those issues.
