Phase 1 S40, Seafoaming the 1.9T
So, I was looking through threads and found this one (https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...0-today-98359/) on seafoaming. I've never seafoamed a car before, much less a turbocharged one. In the thread, they seem to be referencing to a procedure on how to correctly do this. Where can I find that procedure and does anyone have any seafoam brands that they recommend?

Seafoam is the brand. Poured in the oil it will loosen any sludge deposits. Don't run your car very many miles before changing the oil. ATF in the oil does the same thing. Don't use much and change your oil after 50 miles or so.
Seafoam poured in the gas tank is supposed to help clean injectors and decarbonize the combustion chamber. Also you can suck it into the engine via a vacuum line. I've never really had any luck with magic fixes in a bottle. Good luck. Don't hydro-lock your engine.

I also am skeptical about "fix in a bottle" products, but have to say that I do like Seafoam. I've used the typical method of slowly pouring in a few ounces into the throttle body or vacuum port as the engine is idling. Then I pour a few more ounces in more quickly and shut down the engine for 10 minutes. When I start it back up, there's a huge cloud of smoke out the back - I can only imagine that it's from previously-trapped sludge that's been liberated and burned in the engine, so I think it's doing some good. I've never really counted on it to do magic, but really haven't ever used it on a really gunked-up motor, either, but have always gotten quite a bit of smoke (you might want to do this at night if your neighbors are twitchy about stuff like this). ;-)
